The group has three squadrons assigned, consisting of the 148th, 152nd and 195th FS, all operating the F-16A/B. The three Arizona units were redesignated as Fighter Squadrons in March 1992. A small number of F-16Cs had been assigned to the Arizona ANG by 1994, with the three units due to receive additional quantities during 1995.

The 152nd FIS was formed in May 1956 with the F-86A and upgraded to the F-86F as a Tactical Fighter Squadron in 1957. A year later the first F-100As were delivered, with the 162nd FIG assigned. The unit exchanged the F-100 for the F-102A in February 1966, until September 1969 when they reverted to the F-100D/F supplemented by a number of F-100Cs. The squadron became a TFTS and was allocated the role of replacement training unit (RTU) for ANG F-100 aircrew. The squadron continued as an RTU until 1977, when the F-100 was replaced by the A-7D, with a number of two-seat A-7Ks assigned subsequently. The unit was redesignated the 152nd TFS in July 1979, and began converting to F-16A during late 1991.

The 195th TFTS was activated in February 1984 with the A-7D/K. The Corsairs were progressively retired during 1990/1991 as the unit converted to the F-16A.
